Prior to joining eShopWorld, Thorpe was a Senior Manager at global standards organization BSI, where he provided advisory and auditing services regarding information security, data protection, digital risk management, governance and compliance to some of the world’s largest organizations. Prior to that, he served as a PCI Security Standards Council Advisor and Head of IT and Security at payment services and financial solutions company MyGate Global. He holds a post-graduate degree in Management Information Systems from the University of Cape Town and an MSc in Information Security from Royal Holloway, University of London.

Earlier this year, eShopWorld opened its international headquarters in Swords, and announced the creation of 250 jobs, and a €25m programme of investment.

The Deloitte Fast 50 measures Ireland’s fastest growing indigenous companies in the technology sector. The awards, which are in their 18th year in Ireland, recognise the contribution of indigenous companies to the technology sector in Ireland, and the overall economy. Cumulatively, the 2017 Fast 50 winners generated approximately €858m in total annual revenues in 2016.

September 15th saw a gathering of 15 of Europe’s most important brands at the inaugural “Vistas & Visionaries in the Valley” event, hosted by eShopWorld.

Dr. Tu-Lam Pham, a leading eCommerce consultant, presented a keynote speech that looked at the latest and greatest eCommerce innovations, and how brands can win the hearts and minds of shoppers by providing outstanding direct to consumer experiences.

Some of the key call outs from Tu-Lam included:

  • Direct to consumer is the only way
  • Global distribution is key
  • Focus all marketing on mobile, social and content
  • Messaging apps are the next platforms
  • Augmented reality is the future

This engaging presentation was followed by a networking session, with the evening culminating in a retailer peer to peer discussion at La Lanchetta restaurant. As promised, it was a perfect blend of good food, beautiful vistas and power idea-sharing.
